India’s leading full service law firm, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, has appointed Komal Gupta as Head of Innovation & Artificial Intelligence, in a move that demonstrates the firm’s ongoing commitment to lead the Indian legal industry’s evolution and transformation – an initiative driven by the managing partner.

Innovation has been identified as a key strategic driver by the partnership of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas as it further augments market leading experience and expertise with a legacy of commercial and technology leadership to help best serve its clients.

“The firm’s innovation strategy is not simply about ticking boxes with technology, or following the crowd – it recognizes that successful innovation initiatives involve people, culture, clients, and leadership”, said managing partner, Cyril Shroff.

Komal is a seasoned professional with over twelve years of experience in the field of legal operations management, business development and regulatory compliance; and brings with her a proficiency in use of technology and process. Before joining the Firm, she was Vice President at Integreon Managed Solutions.

She has experience in building teams and in developing and streamlining systems with proven ability to enhance operational effectiveness and best practices. She will assist in incubation of innovative ideas at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas in the ‘innovation lab’, which is a broader initiative of exploring cutting edge technology and different delivery models to the practice of law.

Komal holds a BA degree from Rohilkhand University, 2001 and has also done her LLB from ILS Law College Pune, 2004 being a ‘gold medalist’ for being ranked 1st in Pune University.

Komal will work with the top management to develop and drive the firm’s innovation strategy and will continue to be involved in a range of legal service delivery transformation initiatives, as the firm approaches the ‘business of law’ with a modern lens.

On her appointment, managing partner Cyril Shroff said, “This senior appointment confirms our commitment to leading the transformation of the legal industry to best serve our clients and lawyers, and the future of legal services lies on being able to rapidly innovate and evolve using technology to enhance such capabilities.”

Further, Komal will have New Delhi based Disputes Partner Amita Choudary Katragadda as her day-to-day ‘mentor’ who in addition to her legal practice, brings a wealth of entrepreneurial and commercial skills to this new role having completed her MBA at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business where she engaged in a number of innovative legal service delivery ideations and design thinking, for which the school is famous.

The firm will be presenting at a series of exclusive events being held in the coming months across our client and partner community to promote the firm’s emerging approach to innovation, and to outline the various services and technologies that the firm has underway.

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, had earlier announced in January 2017 of having signed an agreement with Canada based technology company Kira Systems, a leading machine learning software provider in the Artificial Intelligence space, India’s first law firm to deploy such a technology, hence enhancing its delivery model to provide certain legal services more efficiently, quickly and accurately to its clients. The same is in its pilot and testing stages in the firm, and with the addition of Komal and the establishment of a larger innovation team, this initiative will see more momentum in the coming months.
