Mr. Bharat Vasani is a Senior Advisor at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas’ Mumbai Office. Prior to joining Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Mr. Vasani was Legal Advisor to Tata Group Chairman, having also in his earlier role been Chief Legal & Group General Counsel of Tata Sons Ltd, the holding company of Tata Group.

Mr. Vasani has over 35 years of experience at senior management level, and has successfully built and managed the in-house legal departments of large multinationals. He has been at the helm of and steered several large key M&A transactions pursued by the Tata Group in the last 17 years. Mr. Vasani is highly regarded in Government circles and in various industry organizations for his proactive approach on public policy issues.

His areas of specialisation includes company law, corporate and commercial laws, securities law, capital market, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, competition law, employment law and property matters.

Mr. Vasani is a keen public speaker and is a regular in television debates on corporate law issues including on the law & practice of related party transactions. He has addressed several national and international seminars on various subjects, including corporate governance, insider trading, takeover code, constitutional law issues, etc. He was selected to speak on India’s Competition Act at the reputed Chatham House, London. He is also a prolific writer and has written several articles on corporate law and governance.

Mr. Vasani was a member of the Expert Committee constituted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in 2015 to suggest revisions to the Companies Act, 2013.

 Mr. Vasani has successfully completed his ‘Leadership in Corporate Counsel Course’ from the Harvard Law School in 2010 and the M&A Training Course in 2017 from the Harvard Business School. He also holds a First Class Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and First Class First Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Mumbai University. He is member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and was awarded the President’s Medal for securing the First Rank in the Company Secretaries examination.

  • Mr. Vasani is presently the Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  • Mr. Vasani’s contribution to the legal fraternity has been most recently uniquely recognised by the Harvard Law School’s Award for Professional Excellence, 2016. He also has the proud honour of winning several awards, including the IFLR Award 2010, Legal Era Awards for the Best General Counsel 2011 and Leadership Excellence Award, 2016.

  • Strategic advisory to various clients on queries related to employment, contracts, litigation arising due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
  • Advising various media & entertainment companies on legal issues.
  • Adani Green Energy in relation to its joint venture agreement with Total S.A. for solar projects across India.
  • Orbimed Asia III Mauritius and Orbimed Asia III Mauritius FVCI acquired 9.9% stake in Advanced Enzyme Technologies.
